CMCA Exam Accommodations

CAMICB provides reasonable testing accommodations for candidates with documented disabilities to ensure a fair and equal opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge measured by the CMCA examination.

The CMCA examination is a standardized, closed-book examination administered under secure testing conditions. Approved accommodations provide access to the examination but do not change the knowledge being assessed, the passing standard, examination security requirements, or the standardized conditions needed to maintain valid and comparable results.

Candidates requesting accommodations should submit their request with the CMCA examination application and before CAMICB authorizes the candidate to schedule the examination through the Authorization to Test (ATT) process.

Request an Accommodation

To request testing accommodations, candidates must submit:

  • A completed and signed CMCA Testing Accommodations Application form; and
  • Documentation from an appropriately licensed professional or qualified specialist who has evaluated or treated the candidate for the disability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Candidates may request reasonable accommodations based on a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities relevant to taking the examination, such as seeing, hearing, speaking, reading, learning, concentrating, thinking, performing manual tasks, or working.

Candidates must submit their accommodation request with the CMCA examination application and before CAMICB authorizes the candidate to schedule the examination through the Authorization to Test (ATT) process.

Requests submitted after the ATT has been issued may not be considered before the candidate’s scheduled examination appointment and may require additional processing time.

Documentation should be submitted on the evaluator’s professional letterhead or directly from the evaluator’s professional email address and should include:

  • A specific diagnosis based on professionally recognized criteria;
  • A description of the functional limitations resulting from the disability as they relate to taking the examination;
  • The specific testing accommodation requested;
  • The professional’s recommendation and rationale for the requested accommodation; and
  • Information about any prior accommodations provided in academic, testing, or workplace settings, if applicable.

Incomplete documentation may delay review of the request and may prevent CAMICB from approving the requested accommodation.

CAMICB reviews each accommodation request individually to determine whether it is complete, supported by required documentation, administratively feasible, and consistent with CAMICB’s published accommodation procedures.

CAMICB staff does not make independent medical diagnoses or determine the medical necessity of an accommodation. CAMICB may request additional information, clarification, or supporting documentation when needed.

When documentation supports the requested accommodation and the accommodation does not materially alter the examination or compromise examination integrity, CAMICB will coordinate implementation through its examination administration process and testing vendors.

Requests that remain incomplete for more than two months after the original submission date may be closed administratively.

Yes. CAMICB will not approve accommodations that materially alter the examination or compromise the validity, reliability, security, or comparability of examination results.

Examples of accommodations or modifications that will not be approved include:

  • Open-book testing;
  • Access to unauthorized reference materials;
  • Assistance interpreting or answering examination questions; or
  • Other modifications inconsistent with the purpose and standardized administration of the CMCA examination.

If a requested accommodation is denied, modified, or not provided as requested, the candidate may request reconsideration.

Reconsideration is limited to whether CAMICB properly applied its published accommodation procedures. Reconsideration does not permit accommodations that would materially alter the examination, compromise examination integrity, or allow unauthorized assistance or reference materials.
